Dark Blue Morning was founded in 1995 by Dr. Art Kohn, an internationally honored, cognitive psychologist who studies the processes of teaching and learning. The company has created dozens of innovative educational CD-ROMs, videos, web sites, and DVDs for a variety of prestigious customers. DBM is privately held and managed in the United States. Dr. Art Kohn has worked at the intersection of education technology for nearly 25 years. He received his Ph.D. in Cognitive psychology from Duke University under the tutelage of Dr. John Staddon. Dr. Kohn publishes on the technology and the theory of learning and is a world leader in applying technology to improving education. He received a Fulbright Fellowship in Cognitive Psychology in 1990 and he was awarded a rare second Fulbright Fellowship in 2000 for his work in Educational Technology. Dr. Kohn has authored numerous articles on teaching and technology and he is currently authoring a textbook entitled Immersive Learning.
Dr. Kohn is a speaker and commentator about online education and instructional design. He is a passionate teacher, both in the classroom and online.
He won the 1989 National Early Career Teaching award which is presented annually by the American Psychological Association.
Jane Clark is a British-trained solicitor who has practiced law both in the UK and in the USA for 20 years. She is recognized as a leader in on-line continuing legal education both in the USA and Canada. Jane is the driving force behind developing new business partnerships and finding new ways to deploy the Classroom teaching and Learning Environment.
Gabriela Martorell obtained her Ph.D. in Psychology at University of California, Santa Barbara in Developmental and Evolutionary Psychology. She has taught graduate and undergraduate courses in lifespan human development, infant development, cultural issues in psychology, evolutionary psychology, developmental psychopathology and a Capstone practicum in Early Childhood Education. She is committed to teaching, mentoring and advising.
Her research interests are framed by a transactional model of parent child interaction which focuses on how parental cognitions about power and control can affect negative caregiving interactions and the perception of children's behavior. In addition, she is interested in how such characteristics as child temperamental difficulty or disabilities can impact the relationship further. Last, she conducts research on Latino families of children with Down syndrome and focuses on health care access issues and the socializing influences of a family support group.
Dr. Burke is a researcher in the areas of applied technology and education. His innovative approach to intelligent computing is the driving force behind Classroom’s immersive user interface. Dr. Burke supervises the on-going development of the Classroom architecture.
Ms. Kendziorski has her master’s degree from Manchester university in Visual Anthropology. Ms. Kendziorski handles video and content development.
For more than 25 years, Jodi Bache has designed and developed computer-based training for such companies as ATI, ServiceMaster, and General Motors. She is an expert in open source learning management systems. Jodi’s specialty is in rapid production of high-quality instructional products and professional services using any medium that meets customer requirements.
